The R-set, K-set and S-set were designed by MVRDV in 1998. The 3 sets made from glazed earthenware play with the notion of perfection, instead of perfectly shaped bowls the sets have a rough outside kept in the material color and they are dented. Randomly?
The R-set consists of sevens bowls which have a sand colored exterior while the interior colors vary from blue, dark blue, green, orange, red, white, and yellow. The white bowl has dents in which the others fit. Combining them in two stacks allows a range of color variations.
The K-set is made up of 7 bowls with an off white exterior with a red interior. The dented shapes can fit or not, the red color connects the bowls and vases that are seemingly dented in a random way. The K-set is not on show here.
The S-set is made up of 4 pieces with an off white exterior with a light blue interior. At first sight the 3 odd shaped bowls and the vase with the dents are strange. The set can be assembled into a fragile tower, the combination of rough structure and the dents are a perfect match to give stability to the tower of three bowls and a vase.
Cor Unum (latin for ‘one heart’) has been producing hand-made ceramics since 1953.
