One Theme: Painting Urbanism
Speakers: Jeroen Koolhaas and Dré Urhahn (Haas&Hahn)
Artists Jeroen Koolhaas and Dré Urhahn create community art by painting entire neighborhoods, and involving those who live there – from the favelas of Rio to the streets of North Philadelphia.
At the invitation of 1·Lectures, they present a selection of recent and current projects, focusing on the topic of ‘Painting Urbanism’. According to Haas&Haan themselves, ‘Painting Urbanism resides in the intersection between land art, supergraphics, graffiti and urban planning. It takes the built environment as a continuous territory beyond notions of public and private; it activates the urban fabric introducing new spaces of intensity and collectivity beyond spatial conditions and denounces the underutilization of residual spaces of design and action within the city.’
