A new season of 1·Lectures, the architecture lectures that go beyond the issues of the day, is about to get underway. The Amsterdam Centre for Architecture and the Academy of Architecture Amsterdam are, for the third time, organizing an inspiring Thursday evening of lectures in Amsterdam every two weeks, in which a diverse range of subjects from the international world of architecture, urban planning and landscape architecture will be addressed.
ONLINE TICKETS SOLD OUT. There will be a few tickets available at the door prior to the lecture at the University of Architecture.
2016 is the centenary of the Amsterdam School. The housing designed by the architects of the Amsterdam School ranks among the high points of Dutch architecture and can still be admired throughout the city. The architects’ use of brick and ornament, of the façade as a means of expression and the housing block as a defining element in the streetscape together form a public statement. There is now a clear reappraisal of these design choices, as regards materials, building and area development.
As part of this celebratory year, this 1·Lectures is devoted entirely to the Amsterdam School as a source of inspiration for today’s architects. The lecture will be preceded, at 16.00, by the opening at the Amsterdam Centre for Architecture of the exhibition ‘100 years of inspiration – the influence of the Amsterdam School on contemporary building’.
Time: Thursday evenings, 8pm
Location: Academy of Architecture Amsterdam, Waterlooplein 213
Tickets: €5,- (single lecture) €35 (passe-partout eight lectures)
Tickets are available in our webshop.
In addition, tickets can be purchased at the door from 19:30 on the evening of the lecture itself (if available). Academy students are entitled to free admission on presentation of their student ID card.
