Tokyo-based garden designer Paul Smither visits Amsterdam for his 1·Lectures on Thursday December 15th at the Academy of Architecture. During this night, he shares his successful and unique approach to gardening.
After his training at the prestigious Royal Horticultural Society, he moved to Japan where he founded his agency Garden Rooms in 1997. His approach is in popular demand in Japan and beyond, implementing a chemical-free method in the city garden and suggesting an environmentally-conscious natural gardening. As Nature Intends.
Paul Smither designs gardens with great respect to the wider context: “When I’m designing a garden, I always try to make sure that it blends in with the surrounding area and, wherever possible, I like to use big sweeps of nature”. And everything is about beauty in his work, even the gardening equipment showed on his YouTube-channel and his website look like bijoux. Paul Smither is writing and illustrating books on gardening and has his own television series in the language of his adopted homeland.
