The 1·Lectures of Thursday December 1st will honour the renewed Beurspassage. One day prior to the official opening we invite New York-based architect Paul Whalen (RAMSA) and developer Frank van Kessel (Top Vastgoed), together with artist Arno Coenen, Iris Roskam, and Hans van Bentem to talk about the design and the realization of this unique project.

Unique collaboration
Similarly as with the 1Lectures of the A’DAM Toren, we focus on the unique and intense collaboration between the various parties involved. The renewed Beurspassage, featuring the artwork ‘Amsterdam Oersoep’, is the crowning glory of Nowadays, the redevelopment project that includes the properties of Damrak 70, 80 en Nieuwendijk 196.

Date: Thursday 1 December
Time: 8 PM
Location: Academy of Architecture Amsterdam, Waterlooplein 213
Tickets: €5, tickets can be purhased in our webshop.
In addition, tickets can be purchased at the door from 7:30 PM on the evening of the lecture itself (if available). Academy of Architecture students are entitled to free admission on presentation of their student ID card.
Language: English

Lecturers
Architect Paul Whalen is partner of the New York-based firm Robert A.M. Stern Architects (RAMSA). Together with the Dutch architects of Rijnboutt they were responsible for the design of the redevelopment of the Beurspassage.

Developer Frank van Kessel is partner of Top Vastgoed. Commissioned by Bouwinvest, Top Vastgoed definited the redevelopment scheme of the properties Damrak 70, 80 en Nieuwendijk 196.

Artists Arno Coenen and Iris Roskam (known for their ceiling piece ‘Horn of Plenty’ at the Markthal Rotterdam), together with artist Hans van Benthem (known for his famous chandeliers that featured in Viktor & Rolf campagnes), realised the ‘Amsterdam Oersoep’ art piece. They used exceptional materials and traditional craftsmanship. Hans van Benthem decorated the passage with chandeliers that are inspired by bicycle parts.
