Bouwjaar ’86

ARCAM has been in existence for twenty years in 2006 and was celebrating this with an exhibition in which Amsterdam in ARCAM’S year of foundation, 1986, was brought to life. A look back: the world was shocked by the disaster in Chernobyl, the explosion of the Challenger and bombings in Paris and Berlin. In Amsterdam, 1986 was the year in which the city was not chosen to host the 1992 Olympic Games, immigrants were allowed to vote for the first time and anti-apartheid protests took place on the Dam. The Stopera, primary school the Evenaar, the housing on Zwanenburgwal and the railway stations Sloterdijk, De Vlugtlaan and Lelylaan were completed. Newspaper articles, music, films, photographs, models and city impressions took the visitor back to the Amsterdam of 1986.
The year 1986 was also the theme of the museumnight 2006 at ARCAM.
