Since Dedato made a name for itself with a number of simple office buildings, there has been talk of the Dedato style, evoking an image of sober office buildings of prefabricated concrete, glass and steel, usually in a location that has yet to be developed. On a peninsula on the edge of the former dock area Oostelijk Havengebied, the system has been employed for the first time in a larger complex, comprising four linked commercial buildings.
The peninsula is still covered with untidy industrial development, which hides the surrounding water from view. This, however, is set to change. Zeeburg district council aims to realize a high-quality, vibrant business park on the site.
Dedato has given an impetus to this by raising the new complex so that the water can be experienced from the road. Here, a publicly accessible terrace provides a view over Entrepothaven. This view can also be enjoyed from the offices and the full-width balconies. The glazed facades on the waterside can be fully opened on all four storeys.
The parts of the complex are linked by means of glazed voids containing the staircases and lifts. Each stairwell has a different colour. All of the practical facilities are concentrated around these cores so that the office floors could be kept as open as possible. On the roof are four (company) penthouses. Parking is at ground level.
The building and the surrounding area appear to attract mainly companies in the creative sector. (ARCAM)
