Do It Yourself! Take this (walking)tour to discover the latest architecture of Buiksloterham (Amsterdam North)
Buiksloterham was known for its polluted industries. Fortunately that is no longer the case, because it is now one of the most sustainable areas in the city. Residents, companies, organisations and the city of Amsterdam are working together to transform this part of town into a circular city district. Together they are pioneering in sustainable energy, the reuse of materials and building green en eco-friendly. That pioneering has led to great, innovative and unique architecture.
Lots of projects here are self builds, which means that individuals are creating their own homes. The self build projects are characteristic for this neighbourhood which is still very much under development.
The tour starts at Schoonschip, the most sustainable floating residential area in Europe, and ends at Nautique Living, which was one of the nominees of the Amsterdam Architecture Award 2018. Taking this route will take you to see the following projects amongst others:
- Schoonschip, zelfbouw/self build, © Isabel Nabuurs
- Patch22, Tom Frantzen et al.
- 3-generatiehuis, BETA
- Amsterdam Noord
