An Other Atlas of Amsterdam

ARCAM has been collecting descriptions of architectural projects in the online Architecture Guide for years. This guide has been compiled by experts and contains historical and architectural descriptions of buildings in Amsterdam. In 2021, ARCAM realises that the built environment, in addition to intrinsic architectural features, must also be appreciated for the social context in which it finds itself and the personal stories of which it forms the background. With An Other Atlas of Amsterdam, ARCAM wants to shift the focus from expert knowledge to a multivocal collection of stories, in order to do justice to the different personal experiences of the various residents and users in Amsterdam.

In 2021, ARCAM will develop a toolkit to collect these stories. In An Other Atlas of Amsterdam, in contrast to an encyclopedic enumeration of projects, we want to show a network of stories and experiences related to a location.
