Dutch Academy for Film and Television

The building is a reparation project in two respects. It is part of the development on a strip which was demolished for the construction of the IJ Tunnel. The neighbourhoods which were separated as a result have now been reconnected with this new-build. Moreover, the new academy bounds the Mr. Visserplein and restores the building line of the street in front.

The building has a floor plan in the shape of a parallelogram, as a result of which the entrance is situated in a triangular square. The core has been placed as a box within a box.

In this space, which is screened from daylight and noise, are the studios, the cinema and the direction rooms. Along the façades of the space which surrounds the core are the work spaces and toilets on long galleries. By making the core building one storey lower than the surrounding shell, on the roof a patio has been created which serves as a terrace. (ARCAM/BU)
