Documentary about the restoration process of the Amsterdam School icon.
In 1917, Michiel de Klerk was commissioned by the housing cooperative Eigen Haard to design a housing complex for workers. This became a beautiful icon of the Amsterdam School, popularly known as The Ship. Using the restoration process as a starting point, the documentary explores Michel de Klerk’s motives for making this building in this wonderful way. As a restorer, how do you do justice to such a monumental work of art? Are the demands of the architects feasible for the craftsmen of our time?
After the documentary will premiere at the AFFR on 13 October, the film will travel to Architectuurcentrum Amsterdam for a week-long screening during the autumn holiday from Tuesday 23 to Sunday 28 October. Take a seat in our temporary cinema and follow the search for the right stone.
