Gunnar Daan

On 15 January, Gunnar Daan (1939) will give a lecture in the series ‘ARCAM in de Brakke Grond’. Daan graduated from the TH in Delft in 1965 and then worked for several years for the engineering firm Civielco in Leiden and the architectural office K.L. Sijmons before setting up his own practice in 1971. Gunnar Daan left this office in 2005 and was succeeded by Bauke Tuinstra. The office is now called Gunnar Daan Doeke van Wieren Architecten. Daan has realized numerous renovation projects and (urban) designs and has won various prizes (for example, the Waagstraat project in Groningen). Other work by Daan includes Alphen aan den Rijn city heart, the law courts in Zwolle (unbuilt), museums in Heino and Zwolle, the office building Crystalic in Leeuwarden and the town halls in Dongeradeel and Schiermonnikoog. In Amsterdam, Daan designed the entrance pavilions in the Amsterdamse Bos. Work in progress includes the Nature Museum on Almeland and the Friesian Architecture Centre.
