Jacob van Rijs (1964) studied architecture at the TU in Delft. In 1991, together with Winy Maas and Nathalie de Vries, he set up the architectural office MVRDV. The office has realized a great many projects in the Netherlands and abroad, such as, for example, the housing complex Sanchinarr in Madrid, a cultural centre in Japan, Villa VPRO in Hilversum, the residential building Silodam in Amsterdam and the Masterplan for and 900 dwellings in the Ypenburg area of The Hague. The spectacular Parkrand building (Amsterdam Nieuw West), with two openings in the facade, designed by Van Rijs, is scheduled for completion in 2007. In addition to his work at MVRDV, Van Rijs also gives lectures and workshops at various colleges and institutes throughout the world.
