Office building between street and railway

A triangular plot between the narrow Sloterdijkstraat and the railway yard has been optimally used by constructing a triangular building here. The building’s long elevation, on the side of the railway line, is clad with perforated, matt gold-coloured corrugated sheets. This material has been specially designed to absorb sound, as a result of which the building also functions as a noise barrier.

In order to maximize space, the elevation on the street side curves towards the railway line and leans forward. On this side, there is slate cladding and horizontal strips of fenestration. In the building’s interior, the construction, consisting of wooden columns and concrete floors, has been left in view wherever possible. Apart from a load-bearing wall in the middle, there are no obstacles dividing up the space. (ARCAM/BU)
