This year, on 21 June, Architecture Day, which ARCAM organizes together with the Amsterdam section of the BNA (Association of Dutch Architects), was all about Amsterdam Zuidoost and provided an opportunity to make some unique discoveries in this much talked-about district.
Guided tours, on bicycles and on foot, took participants on an adventurous journey through the ‘historic’ and the renewed parts of the Bijlmer, during which they will be challenged to form their own opinion. Led by enthusiastic guides, the tour took in, among other things, the original high-rise (‘Bijlmermuseum’ and Gouden Leeuw), the Taibah mosque, the striking ING headquarters and distinctive new-build projects such as Mi Akoma di Color, housing by ONL and the new station Bijlmer Arena, which has been named BNA building of the year 2008. A large number of much talked-about buildings was open and architects were there to talk about them.
ProRail developed a virtual tour of the station Bijlmer ArenA. Download Here for on mp3 player!
Participants received the Architectural Map of Zuidoost, from now own for sale for 5 euro at ARCAM and the specialized bookshop.
In September ARCAM organized a story evening about Zuidoost.
‘ZUIDOOST, discover the Bijlmer in a single day’ has been part funded by AM, Amsterdam Partners, BAM Vastgoed, CEC, Rabo Bouwfonds, Rochdale, Stadsdeel Zuidoost en Ymere.
