Simon Allford (AHMM,London)

Simon Allford (1961) studied at Hampstead Comprehensive, the University of Sheffield and Bartlett School of Architecture. In 1989 he co-founded Allford Hall Monaghan Morris (AHMM) in London. Allford is currently working on a wide range of projects, including the housing complex Adelaide Wharf, housing in Hackney and the headquarters of the fashion company Monsoon. The reason for inviting this Londoner is his involvement in the University of Amsterdam’s plans for Roeterseiland. In 2010 a start will be made here on the renovation of a number of the university’s buildings for education, research and facilities. The aim is to be able to provide suitable accommodation for several faculties. As a result, Roeterseiland will become an urban and varied university location with a vibrant public space that links in well with its surroundings. AHMM has experience in Great Britain with renovating large public buildings, including the Barbican Arts Centre in London. This is the first time that AHMM has worked on a project in the Netherlands.
