In The Netherlands hundreds of theatres and museums are being (re)build but the majority is still monofunctional and introvert. Upcoming changes: cultural building can be more exiting, more attractive, more comfortable and have a wider range of applications.
This special edition of Talk of the Town, organised by ARCAM, LAgroup and De Zwijger focused on future museum and theatre design.
To start Johan Idema (LAgroup), author of ‘Beyond the black box and the white cube’, showed international examples that inspire. After that Sandra den Hamer (director EYE Film Instituut Nederland) and Patrick van Mil (director Stedelijk Museum) were asked to compare theories to their soon-to-be-opened new museums.
Maarten Kloos (ARCAM) made the concluding remarks.
