Shopping mall‘Villa ArenA’ is a shopping centre selling home furnishings, in which the aim was to make shopping an inspiring, theatrical experience. In the centre of the building is a covered court with benches, kiosks and a monumentally situated cafeteria. Escalators and elevated bridges give access to the 75 shops, which are distributed over four storeys. The shopping centre is part of the area around the Amsterdam ArenA in Amsterdam Zuidoost. This is to develop over the coming years into a vibrant urban centre with, in addition to offices and dwellings, a large number of entertainment facilities and department stores. The triangular Villa ArenA forms the termination of Arena Boulevard, which bisects the area diagonally. The cladding of large aluminium slats has been chosen with the aim of making the department store’s dynamism recognizable from a considerable distance. (ARCAM/Bu) |
