Housing block with a variety of dwelling typesThe residential complex ‘Henkenshage’ is situated in the so-called ‘Kastelenbuurt’ in Amsterdam Buitenveldert. This neighbourhood is characterized by half-open blocks with green inner gardens. Henkenshage is a large rectangular block which is divided into six smaller blocks by 12-metre-high gateways. These smaller blocks are interconnected by galleries and a large steel canopy. The building contains a diverse array of dwelling types: split-level and corridor dwellings, maisonettes and penthouses, owner-occupied dwellings, all of which have either a roof terrace or a balcony. In addition, space has been reserved inside the complex for a communal residence for the elderly, a supermarket and businesses. The dwellings look out onto an inner court, underneath which is a parking garage with natural ventilation. The façades are characterized by a highly varied arrangement, with vertical, pale green glass plates and windows of varying height. (ARCAM/BU) |
