Private house James Bradleystraat
The clients who commissioned this house emphatically wanted to create a house in which they would have adequate privacy. For this reason, Dorens Architects designed a house in which the occupants are able to literally screen themselves off from the street.
The bronze, basalt and chrome of the street elevation reflect the luxurious style of the owners. The basalt has been deliberately roughly hewn in order to accentuate the contrast with the smoothness of the chrome.
On the houses lowest level are the garage, the living room and the kitchen. There are three rooms on the first floor, while on the second floor there are two rooms and a studio that extends the full width of the house, with a stunning view over the lake. The staircase on the left-hand side of the house slices through the house in a straight line, giving rise to a diagonal sight line from bottom to top.
The rear elevation has, in contrast to the street elevation, been made as transparent as possible, so that all rooms have a panoramic view over the water and Diemenpark. (ARCAM/BU)
